Welcome to João Paulo II airport in Ponta Delgada! We’ve got your transportation covered, ensuring a smooth journey to our hotel. Take the morning to unwind or venture out to explore the city at your own pace. Later, we’ll pick you up for a delectable welcome lunch at a local restaurant—an excellent chance to ask any questions you may have and forge connections with your fellow travelers.

In the afternoon, our adventure takes us to the Gorreana Tea Factory, the oldest tea plantation in Europe. Immerse yourself in the fascinating workings of the factory and explore its scenic surroundings. The distinctive shape and texture of the green tea leaves offer endless possibilities for captivating photography in this unique landscape.

As the day unfolds, our plans adapt to the weather. For a mesmerizing sunset experience, we might head to the beaches of Santa Bárbara and Monte Verde near our hotel. Alternatively, we could explore the jagged cliffs of Miradouro do Cintrão, providing a breathtaking panorama of the north coast with the Sete Cidades volcano as a majestic backdrop.

Our day begins at the stunning Lagoa do Fogo volcanic lake, situated at one of the highest points on the island. While the weather here can often be cloudy or foggy during the day, this unique atmosphere provides a mystical quality to the surroundings. If you have a drone, seize this opportunity to capture truly unique perspectives that the clouds and fog can enhance.

Following a delicious breakfast, our journey takes us west to explore the volcanic wonder of Sete Cidades and the twin lakes of Lagoa Verde and Azul, each painted with vibrant hues. The panoramic view from this vantage point provides an incredible sense of the surrounding area. For those inclined towards adventure, there’s the option to kayak or paddleboard on the serene lakes, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.

As the day unfolds, our next destination is the renowned Grota do Inferno viewpoint, hailed as one of the highlights of the Azores. While the crater lakes of Sete Cidades can be admired from various perspectives, this spot offers an unrivaled view that truly stands out. If you happen to have a drone with you, take advantage of the opportunity to capture the aerial beauty of Lagoa do Canario, revealing an intriguing shape that adds an extra layer of fascination to the already breathtaking landscape.

Embrace the magic of sunrise at one of our cherished locations in São Miguel, the Vila Franca Islet. Renowned for its distinctive geological formation, this islet is a volcanic crater that partially collapsed, allowing seawater to create a natural circular pool inside. To capture truly unique perspectives, a bird’s eye view from a drone is essential.

Our journey continues to the captivating Lagoa das Furnas, a spectacular crater lake offering opportunities to photograph mud pools and other steaming geothermal features. Indulge in the unique local delicacies of Furnas, including the famous Cozido das Furnas, cooked by volcanic steam, and the sweet muffins known as bolo lêvedo.

Next on our itinerary is the Terra Nostra Park, celebrated as one of the most beautiful gardens, complete with inviting thermal pools. Don’t forget your swimwear; the temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius create a sensation of rest and relaxation, ensuring a delightful experience for the remainder of the day.

Our list of must-visit spots includes the Ribeira Quente waterfalls, where the rich iron waters create a unique palette of brown and orange hues. In the afternoon, we journey back to the island’s coastline to capture the mesmerizing sunset, concluding a day filled with diverse landscapes and unforgettable moments in São Miguel.

Morning flight to Terceira Island. Home of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angra do Heroísmo. After setting in at our accommodation, take some free time to relax before heading out and discovering the Island.

After lunch, we explore the Black Forest. A unique location due to its dense vegetation, light has a really hard time penetrating these trees, so photographing here is never the same.

Five minutes up the road we go straight to one of the highlights of the Island, Algar do Carvão. The only volcano in the world that you can walk inside it. Unfortunately, tripods are not allowed, so bring the fastest and widest lens you have.

Along the way we explore beautiful forest roads, some of the best-hidden gems are found here. Depending on the weather, we head up for sunset at Serra de Santa Bárbara, the highest point of the Island and a really awesome spot to finish our day.

Our early start takes us to Serra da Ribeirinha, perched on the southern rim of a volcano. From this vantage point, a panoramic view of the coast unfolds, with Serra do Morião and Serra Santa Bárbara to the right, overlooking Monte Brasil, and two more islands in the distance, São Jorge and Pico.

Our next destination is the picturesque Pico Dona Joana, home to one of the most unique perspectives in the Azores. With the backdrop of Ilhéu das Cabras, this volcanic cone promises an awe-inspiring sight.

At noon, we arrive at Praia da Vitória for a truly authentic Azorean experience. Delight in a homemade lunch at a local family’s restaurant, gaining insights into what life is like on these enchanting islands.

Our journey continues to the northern part of the island, leading us to Ponta do Mistério. This coastal gem offers a mysterious green-glazed lunar landscape against the backdrop of the blue Atlantic Ocean, creating an astonishing sight.

As the day unfolds, we make our way to Biscoitos for the sunset. Known for its wine-growing region and natural pools, this picturesque town showcases rugged black lava fields sculpted by the waves, resulting in captivating and intriguing landscapes.

We start our morning at Ponta das Contendas lighthouse and its surrounding seascapes. A beautiful area with a not so common brown and black coloured rock for the Azores. Depending on the weather, there is also a cave only accessible by sea that provides really interesting photo opportunities.

Next, we head back to our hotel and discover the UNESCO city of Angra do Heroísmo. The city has a rich history and culture, and its architecture reflects the influence of different periods and styles. The colorful buildings, the cobblestone streets, the monuments and the gardens create a charming atmosphere that invites you to explore and capture every detail.

Considered the most beautiful viewpoint in Portugal, we reserved the best for the last day. The unique view of the interior of the island, known as the “patchwork”, consisting of walls of volcanic stones dividing the farmer fields into square-shaped figures, makes Serra do Cume the epic spot to photograph the last light of the day.

We arrive at the best-kept secret of Europe, the wild and beautiful Island of Flores. After checking in at our accommodations and a quick lunch, we focus on the western part of the Island.

From there, we’ll make a short hike to the beautiful waterfalls of Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro. At the base of the waterfalls is an astonishing lagoon that makes for a variety of exciting compositions.

Late in the afternoon, we’ll head to the Fajã Grande environmental protection area for a sunset session at the Poço do Bacalhau waterfall. It’s a great place to practice aerial photography so if you have a drone, then be sure to bring it along.

The weather in the Azores is very unpredictable, especially in Flores, things change fast, and we might have to visit the same place twice.

Our second day starts at the natural reserve area of Morro Alto. Here you can explore the panoramic view of Lagoa Negra (the deepest lagoon of the Azores) and Lagoa Comprida, and also a beautiful straight road that looks amazing from above.

Next on our list are Lagoa Rasa and Lagoa Funda, a really interesting rugged landscape due to the difference in altitude and color between these two lagoons.

We continue north to Ponta Delgada town, exploring the rugged coastline, stopping at viewpoints, and finishing at the impressive Albarnaz lighthouse on the edge of the cliffs and its surrounding seascapes

Our day starts with sunrise at the seascape of Baía da Alagoa, a rocky bay overlooking a group of rugged basalt sea stacks as our main subject and Corvo Island in the background.

The picturesque town of Santa Cruz is our next location. Take some time to explore and enjoy its surroundings before lunch. There is also a really interesting cave that we can photograph with the Atlantic Ocean as a background. Bring your wide-angle lens, you really need it for this location.

We head back to explore the waterfalls of the western part of the island. You’re on top of the world overlooking the massive waterfall of Ribeira Grande.

As we savor a final breakfast together, let’s take a moment to reminisce about the incredible moments we’ve shared during this photo tour. Unfortunately, the time has come to bid farewell and embark on our journeys back home. To ensure a seamless departure, transfers to the airport are arranged based on the hour of your flight, with no additional costs.

Cherish the memories captured through your lens and the bonds forged during our exploration of these remarkable Azorean islands. Until we meet again, safe travels and thank you for being part of this unforgettable adventure.

Pedro is a Portuguese landscape photographer based in Slovakia but you’ll often find him chasing the light in the most beautiful mountains, forests and fjords of Europe. Favoring the cold landscapes and the raw nature of northern Europe, the weather does not stop him from going after the perfect shot — be it the northern lights in the Lofoten Islands, a snowy beach in Lithuania or a powerful waterfall in Iceland.
