4-8 JULY 2023

Created by local photographer Bruno Azera

Explore with me the unique Islands of Flores and Corvo, the best-kept secret of Europe and a dream for landscape photography.

With so many different waterfalls and river streams, no wonder it’s one of the best places in the world for canyoning. Suitable for all levels of photographic knowledge, my goal is to show you the most photogenic locations, away from the tourist crowd while staying in accommodations that provide you with the best experience.

The Azores are nine beautiful volcanic islands situated in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean. The archipelago is green, volcanic, and remote. With breathtaking landscapes in its purest state and one of the largest whale sanctuaries, provides exceptional conditions for photography during any time of the year.

All transportation, local flights, boat rides between islands, and accommodations are included in the tour cost to make it as easy and stress-free as possible.

The trip to Corvo Island is only possible if the weather conditions are favourable. This allows the participants to concentrate on enjoying and capturing the unbelievable scenery of the islands.

We arrive at the best-kept secret of Europe, the wild and beautiful Island of Flores. After checking in at our accommodations we get together for a welcome lunch.

We start our adventure with a short hike to the most beautiful spot of Azores, the waterfalls of Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro. At the base of the waterfalls is an astonishing lagoon that makes for a variety of exciting compositions.

Late in the afternoon, we’ll head to the Fajã Grande environmental protection area for a sunset session at the Poço do Bacalhau waterfall. It’s a great place to practice aerial photography so if you have a drone, then be sure to bring it along.

Our first day finishes with a Portuguese style dinner at a local restaurant.

The weather in the Azores is very unpredictable, specially in Flores, things change fast, we might have to visit the same place twice.

Our second day starts at the natural reserve area of Morro Alto. Here you can explore the panoramic view of Lagoa Negra (deepest lagoon of the Azores) and Lagoa Comprida, and also a beautiful straight road that looks amazing from above.

Next on our list are Lagoa Rasa and Lagoa Funda, a really interesting rugged landscape due to the difference in altitude and color between these two lagoons.

We continue north to Ponta Delgada town, exploring the rugged coastline, stopping at viewpoints and finishing at the impressive Albarnaz lighthouse on the edge of the cliffs and its surrounding seascapes.

Our day starts with sunrise at the seascape of Baía da Alagoa, a rocky bay overlooking a group of rugged basalt sea stacks as our main subject and Corvo Island in the background.

The picturesque town of Santa Cruz is our next location. Take some time to explore and enjoy its surroundings before lunch. There is also a really interesting cave that we can photograph  with the Atlantic ocean as a background. Bring your wide angle lens, you really need it for this location.

We head back to explore the waterfalls of the western part of the island. A hike is needed to get here, but it’s totally worth it. You’re on top of the world overlooking the massive waterfall of Ribeira Grande.

Depending on the conditions of Atlantic, the day is dedicated to discover the rugged coastline of Flores and the Island of Corvo with Carlos Mendes of Extreme Ocidente.

It’s time to say goodbye and fly home. Transfers to the airport are arranged based on the hour of your flight with no additional costs.

We hope you cherish all of these amazing memories and fantastic photographs from the Azores.
