To ensure uninterrupted exploration, please come equipped with enough drone batteries to sustain at least two hours of flight time daily. Given that most drones operate for around 30 minutes per battery, this preparation will be crucial for maximizing your aerial adventures.

Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned drone pilot, rest assured that my guidance will cater to your individual skills and preferences to meet your needs and aspirations.

Safety is paramount, and we’ll strictly adhere to all drone regulations and laws applicable in the Azores. Our itinerary will exclusively include regions that permit drone usage, and we’ll collaborate closely with each participant to ensure that flight plans are meticulously coordinated, avoiding any overlaps. Get ready to elevate your photography game amidst the awe-inspiring vistas of the Azores!

One standout feature of the Azores is the proximity of every photography spot, with some just a 20-minute drive away. Throughout the tour, I’ll share my knowledge in-field and beyond, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

While we have a planned itinerary, we also embrace flexibility to seize unexpected photographic opportunities that may arise during our journey. Join me for an unforgettable exploration of the Azores, where every moment is an opportunity to capture the magic of these incredible islands.

Drone – This tour is focused on drone photography, so this will be our main tool to capture the unique perspectives of the Azores landscape. Even if you are a beginner, you should have the ability to manually launch and land your drone, as well as navigate basic flight paths to reach a specified destination from the air. I fly with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro, but even the DJI Mini is enough.

Camera (DSLR or Mirrorless) – It’s not necessary, but I recommend you bringing one with a wide angle lens, for some of the locations we are going to visit.

Clothing and Footwear

Waterproof and Windproof JacketA high-quality waterproof and windproof jacket is a must-have item, especially along the rugged coastline where ocean spray and sudden rain showers are common. Look for a jacket with sealed seams, adjustable cuffs, and a hood for maximum protection against the elements.

Warm Layers for Cooler Evenings: Evenings can be cool, especially at higher elevations, so be sure to pack warm layers such as a fleece jacket or lightweight down vest to keep you warm and cozy during sunset shoots or night photography sessions.

Quick-Drying Pants: Choose quick-drying pants made from synthetic materials or lightweight hiking trousers that offer both comfort and functionality.

FootwearI never liked big and heavy hiking boots, I know they offer more protection but for the type of terrain we have, light running shoes are better for the grip. I know this is very subjective but It has worked for me.

Keep in mind that the Azores climate can be very unpredictable, so packing the right clothing is essential for an enjoyable experience.

Welcome to the Unesco World Heritage site of Angra do Heroísmo. Transportation is provided to our hotel. You have the morning to relax and I’ll pick you up later for a delicious welcome lunch in a local restaurant. This is the perfect opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have and to get to know your fellow travelers a little better.

After lunch we explore Lagoinha da Serreta. A small lagoon located on the side of a volcano cliff, surrounded by lush green endemic vegetation.

Next, we visit the popular summer spot of Biscoitos. We start with the wine-growing region, with unique patterns and shapes, ending with the beautiful natural pools. The rugged black-colored lava fields sculpted by waves make for really interesting landscapes.

After dinner our sunset spot is an extension of the coastline, capturing the Atlantic Ocean that surround the land.

Big views and seascapes, that’s our plan for the day. We head out to the most picturesque volcano cone in the Azores, Pico Dona Joana. With Ilhéu das Cabras in the background has to be one of the most unique perspectives you will see in these islands.

After a quick stop for recharging our batteries, we’ll explore the UNESCO city of Angra do Heroísmo. Wandering through the streets and capture the unique architecture, vibrant facades, and local life. Look for interesting doorways, windows, and balconies. The city’s cobblestone streets are also iconic and make for great photo compositions.

After lunch we visit one of the highlights of the Island, Algar do Carvão volcano. Situated in the central part of the Island, and one of the few volcanos in the world that you can walk inside.

On our way back we’ll drive through beautiful forest roads that are amazing from above, there are so many different compositions to have here.

For sunset, we go to Serretinha natural basalt pools to photograph Ilhéu das Cabras.

We start our morning at Ponta das Contendas lighthouse and its surrounding seascapes. A beautiful area with a not-so-common brown and black colored rock for the Azores. Depending on the weather, there is also a cave only accessible by sea that provides really interesting photo opportunities.

At noon, we arrive at Praia da Vitória and to truly complete the Azores experience, I invite you to enjoy a homemade lunch in a restaurant of a local family and get to know what it’s like to live in these islands.

We head out to the north part of the Island, to Ponta do Mistério. One of the Island’s most attractive coastal areas. A mysterious green-glazed lunar landscape, with the blue Atlantic Ocean in the background, creates an amazing sight.

Considered the most beautiful viewpoint in Portugal, we reserved the best for the last sunset in Terceira. The unique view of the interior of the island, known as the “patchwork”, consisting of walls of volcanic stones dividing the farmer fields into square-shaped figures, makes Serra do Cume the epic spot to photograph the last light of the day.

Before our flight to another island, we explore the first light of the day at the southern coastline and the Ilhéu das Cabras as a background.

Welcome to the dragon island, São Jorge has the most impressive coastline of all the islands of the archipelago.

After checking in at our hotel we explore the town of Velas and before setting to our sunset location, we get together to do some post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Our first day in São Jorge ends with my favorite sunset location, Farol da Ponta dos Rosais.

Our morning starts on the opposite coast of the island, on the Fajã dos Cubres. Fajãs are small plains originally created by lava or landslides and there are over 40 on São Jorge. This place is fantastic for getting a panoramic of the all island, specially in the morning when the sun hits the northern coast.

Bring your swimwear because our next location is considered one of the most beautiful natural swimming pools of the Atlantic, Poça Simão Dias.

At this time we head back to recharge our batteries and to grab some lunch at a local restaurant.

We’ll be spending our afternoon in the center plateau of the island exploring many different volcanic cones, some of which with lagoons inside, a playground for drone photographers.

Our final destination for the day is Velas town, conveniently located near our hotel, with the majestic backdrop of Pico mountain setting the scene.

Out of all the days on our tour, this is the longest drive we’ll undertake to capture the sunrise, but it will be definitely worth it. As we fly over Ilhéu do Topo capturing a panoramic view of São Jorge coastline.

We head back to the Hotel to pack because after lunch we fly to another Island.

Welcome to João Paulo II airport in Ponta Delgada. After we check in at our accommodation, we venture to the oldest tea plantation in Europe, Gorreana Tea plantation. Discover the intricacies of the factory and its scenic surroundings. The unique landscape, shaped by the vibrant green tea leaves, offers endless possibilities for captivating photography.

For sunset we explore the jagged cliffs of Miradouro do Cintrão, providing a breathtaking view of the north coast and the majestic Sete Cidades volcano in the background. Get ready for a day filled with exploration, delicious cuisine, and the perfect moments to capture with your camera.

We kick off our morning with a visit to one of my favorite locations in São Miguel, the Vila Franca Islet, renowned for its unique geological formation. This islet features a volcanic crater that has partially collapsed, allowing seawater to enter and form a natural circular pool inside the crater. To capture truly distinctive perspectives, a bird’s eye view from a drone is essential.

After lunch, our journey heads west to explore the volcanic crater of Sete Cidades, home to the captivating multi-colored lakes of Lagoa Verde and Azul. It’s a truly incredible sight, providing a sense of the surrounding area. If you’re into adventurous activities, kayaking and paddleboarding are delightful options on these scenic lakes.

Our next destination is one of the Azores’ highlights—the Grota do Inferno viewpoint. While the crater lakes of Sete Cidades can be admired from various vantage points, this spot stands out as one of the best. Capturing Lagoa do Canário from the air reveals an intriguing and visually stunning shape.

For sunset, we head to Mosteiros Beach to capture the last light of the day in a beautiful seascape photography location.

The day starts at Lagoa do Fogo volcanic lake, one of the highest points of the island. Taking full advantage of the unique perspectives we have in this beautiful location. One of my all time favorite images was taken here.

We head back and enjoy a final breakfast together, reminiscing about the incredible moments shared during the tour.

Unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye and fly home. Transfers to the airport are arranged based on the hour of your flight with no additional costs.

I hope you cherish all of these amazing memories and fantastic photographs from the Azores.
