The Azores is composed of nine beautiful volcanic islands situated in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean. The archipelago is green, volcanic, and remote. With breathtaking landscapes in its purest state and one of the largest whale sanctuaries, provides exceptional conditions for photography during any time of the year.

The Azores is considered “one of the safest destinations in Europe in 2020” from the European Best Destination organization, for travel in the time of Covid-19. A distinction based on health security in tourism, on the low number of cases and in the health service, announced the Regional Government.

Immerse yourself in the amazing culture, the warm-hearted people, and the photographic gems of the Azores islands. From volcanic villages, hot springs to whale watching, as long as you have a sense of adventure, then this is the perfect travel photography tour for you.

Please read this information before booking this tour and traveling to the Azores

Upon arrival, due to Covid-19, you go through all the necessary health checks at the airport. We recommend doing the free COVID-19 test when you land.

For that, the professionals of the Health Authorities at the airport will need to collect biological samples so that they may perform the SARS-CoV-2 test. After the test has been performed, you must stay in prophylactic isolation at the accommodations of the photo tour until you get the results of the test.

At the time of writing, the results of COVID-19 test is known in 12 hours or less.

When all is well, a welcome dinner is provided so we get to know all the participants . All the questions you may have about the tour or any other subject should be answered by the guides.

DAY 2 / SÃO MIGUEL ISLAND

Our second day starts at Lagoa do Fogo, one of the highest points of the island. It usually tends to be cloudy or foggy during the day and ultimately ruin any potential view to be had, so we try our best early in the morning.

We head down to Salto do Cabrito waterfall and also enjoy a dip at Caldeira Velha hot springs pools, surrounded by exotic green vegetation that looks unreal.

For lunch, we head out to one of the best restaurants of the Azores and try it’s amazing local beef.

Next, we go west and explore the volcanic crater of Sete Cidades, with two multi-colored lakes of Lagoa Verde and Azul. It’s an incredible sight and the best way to have a sense of the surrounding area.

Further along the dirt road, we get to one of the highlights of the Azores, Boca do Inferno viewpoint. The crater lakes of Sete Cidades can be viewed from several different viewpoints, but it’s hard to beat this spot. Not to mention, it doesn’t require much effort to reach the overlook.

For sunset, we drive through Sete Cidades town down to Mosteiros beach to capture the last light of the day in a beautiful seascape photography location.

DAY 3 / SÃO MIGUEL ISLAND

We start our morning in the oldest and currently only tea plantation in Europe, Gorreana Tea factory. Get to know the factory and explore its surroundings. The landscape here is unique, the shape and texture of the green tea leaves make for endless photography possibilities.

We make our way northeast to the beautiful and rugged landscape of Nordeste, exploring amazing places along the way like Ribeira dos Caldeirões.

We’ll stop for lunch at a local favorite and enjoy food cooked portuguese style.

Next, is the Arnel lighthouse and its surrounding rugged landscape, the ideal locations to fly a drone.

Along the way, we have the opportunity to photograph and visit some of the hidden gems of the Azores.

DAY 4 / SÃO MIGUEL ISLAND

We start our day in the south coast part of the island to photograph the amazing nature reserve of Vila Franca Islet.

For the remaining of the fourth day, we’ll explore the volcanic crater of Furnas, where thermal pools, hot springs, and fumaroles dominate the landscape. You’ll have the chance to taste the famous local dish known as Cozido das Furnas, which is unique to this town and is cooked by volcanic steam, as well as the sweet muffins called Bolo Lêvedo.

From there, we’ll follow a trail to the Lagoa das Furnas, a spectacular crater lake where you will have the chance to photograph mud pools and other steaming geothermal features.

Next, we head to Terra Nostra Park, considered one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, with the added bonus of having a thermal pool. Be sure to bring your swimwear, with a temperature between 35 and 40 degrees celsius, provides a sensation of rest and relaxation for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to Ribeira Quente, a small but picturesque fishing village surrounded by stunning scenery and lush vegetation, and the only road tunnel of all of the Azores.

DAY 5 / FLORES ISLAND

We travel to the best-kept secret of Europe, the wild and beautiful island of Flores. Although we have a specific itinerary planned, it will depend a lot on the weather conditions, taking advantage of the photographic opportunities we encounter along the way.

For our first day in Flores, we focus on the western point of the Island, starting with Rocha dos Bordões, formed by a set of large vertical basalt columns unique to the Azores.

Next, we head out to one of the most picturesque areas of all our tour, Ribeira do Ferreiro and its waterfalls. There is no short of photo opportunities here. To get to the lagoon, there is a small hike involved but it’s totally worth it.

It’s almost sunset time, so we had back to our cars for a fifteen-minute drive to another famous spot, Poça do Bacalhau at Fajã Grande. If the light is right, having a different perspective with a drone really elevates the game.

DAY 6 / FLORES ISLAND

Depending on the weather, we can choose between two locations. The panoramic view of Lagoa Negra and Comprida or the seascape of Baía dos Cedros, a rocky bay overlooking a group of rugged basalt sea stacks as our main subject and Corvo Island in the background. Both of these spots provide really good photo opportunities for sunrise.

Also on our list, is the impressive landscape of the northwest end of Flores Island, with Albarnaz lighthouse looking strong on top of the cliffs.

After dinner, we have one more activity left on our day, we try our luck with astrophotography at Rocha dos Frades. Despite the Azores is known for its impressive weather, if the conditions are right, Flores Island is an ideal spot for this type of photography.

DAY 7 / CORVO ISLAND

Discover the Island of Corvo. The smallest and the northernmost island of the Azores archipelago has a population of approximately 468, constituting the smallest single municipality in Portugal.

To get here, first, we explore the beautiful waterfalls and caves of Flores Island by boat. A perfect opportunity to put into practice some of the tips and tricks that our guides will share during the tour.

Everything depends on the weather, so let’s hope the Gods are on our side and magic is made so we can photograph the Caldeirão of Corvo at sunset.

Heading back to Flores so we can rest for a next day flight to our next destination.

DAY 8 / TERCEIRA ISLAND

Early morning flight to Terceira Island. Home of the Unesco world heritage site of Angra do Heroísmo. After setting in at the hotel, we have some free time to enjoy the city, before we head out to discover the Island. The viewpoint of Monte Brasil is the perfect spot to start.

After lunch we go straight to the central part of the Island, to the Black Forest.  A unique location due to its dense vegetation, light has a really hard time penetrating these trees. Depending on the weather, photographing here is never the same.

Ten minutes down the road, we get to one of the highlights of the Island, Algar do Carvão. The only volcano in the world that you can walk inside it. Unfortunately, tripods are not allowed, so bring the fastest and widest lens you have.

For sunset, we visit Serra da Ribeirinha. On top of the southern rim of a volcano, we have a panoramic view of the coast. With Serra do Morião and Serra Santa Bárbara on the right side, overlooking Monte Brasil and two more Islands on the background, São Jorge and Pico.

DAY 9 / TERCEIRA ISLAND

Big vistas and seascapes, that’s our plan for the day. We start early with a drive, visiting the best locations as we chase the light along the coast.

At noon, we arrive at Praia da Vitória to have lunch and enjoy the view of the beach. Terceira Island is known to have the best food of the Azores, so we have to make the best out of it. We head out to the north part of the Island, to Ponta do Mistério. One of the Islands most attractive coastal areas. A mysterious green-glazed lunar landscape, with the blue Atlantic ocean in the backdrop, creates an amazing sight.

Next on our list is the popular summer spot of Biscoitos. A picturesque town, known for its wine growing region and even more for its beautiful natural pools. The rugged black colored lava fields sculpted by waves makes for really interesting landscape.

Considered the most beautiful viewpoint in Portugal, we reserved the best for last. The unique view to the interior of the island, known as the “patchwork”, consisting of walls of volcanic stones dividing the farmer fields into square-shaped figures, makes Serra do Cume the epic spot to photograph the last light of the day.

DAY 10 / TERCEIRA ISLAND

Our last day in Terceira. With the Atlantic at your door, enjoy a morning swim at the beach of Praia da Vitória.

We get together for lunch and
